What a great way to start this blog…with the celebration of my oldest daughter’s 11th birthday. For her party, she wanted to have her friends over for dinner and then pack food for a charity. This was all her idea. I have to say I momentarily paused and thought….who is this person? Is this the same person who hates to share with her sister? The one who drops clothing from the front door to the back door and up the stairs? Where did this charitable person appear from? And then in that same nano-second my heart warmed to think, yes, this is MY daughter.
She had 7 girls come over and of course being the hostess with the mostess, we had to have a craft. Blame it on my 10 years of kid’s parties, but one MUST do something. So the girls decorated cupcakes. (See my next post for cupcake decorating ideas) This also ended up being their ‘goodie bag’ – which we all lament over…why oh why must there be goodie bags….yet we all do goodie bags.
The girls then headed to the dining room for a pasta buffet – two types of pasta (penne, linguine) with three sauces (marinara, Alfredo, pesto) and the option of ground Italian sausage, Caesar salad and garlic bread. They could mix and choose (although the Alfredo sauce was the big hit and I think meatballs would have been a better choice than ground sausage). And of course birthday cake and ice cream.
We then went to Feed My Starving Children where we (and the other 80+ volunteers) packed enough food to feed 84 kids for one full year!!
This birthday party had to perhaps be one of my favorites. The fun mixed in with the charitable was the perfect combination. Plus it was my daughter’s idea.
